Combat Patrol WIP

Thought i'd post and update for my combat patrol tournament.

First the Twin Linked Heavy Flamer Razorback, Its actually my Baal Pred with the doors/sponsons magnetised, I didn't magnetise the turret and hope to paint it up soon but until then I'm gonna use it as a razorback.

Managed to make the turret from the leftover parts of the flamestorm cannon and my second turret was made from a land raider sprue (which I bought for the razorback assault cannon)

Finally my tournament board has been finished. I wanted something that could be used as terrain when the combat patrol tournament has finished so I used parts of the aegis defence kit for it. Basically that and polystyrene, foamboard, filler and an mdf base. I've also used magnets to hold the infantry models in place as I often use pennies to weight my plastic models down so they stick to the magnets.

Got 3 Days to finish the Army (cutting it fine), and plan to post battle reports along with my list and tactics and how it plays out after the event.

Death Company update

So finished my death co (apart from basing and varnishing), think the dheneb stone works really well, need to finish my 2 Razorbacks and Chaplain before next Monday and hopefully I will make a display board which I can reuse as a terrain piece (some fortified compound or something, I need a break from painting for a couple of evenings so I will have all weekend to finish the painting.

Got to give a shout out to a couple of podcasts that i've been listening to, mainly The Overlords and http://40kintheuk.wordpress.com/, listening to these has helped me plough through the painting and also helped prepare me for what i might expect at my first ever tournament, especially the 40kUK podcasts.

Death Company WIP

Thought I would post progress pictures of my death company and kit-bashed chaplain. Wanted to do them white but getting white to sit right is too much of a chore so the scheme i'm gonna use is dheneb stone with white highlights. The beaky marine is the only one completed so far, so this is how the rest will look, even made a chainbolter ala Gears of War style.

Anti Grav Kablamo

Ok so i've nearly finished my Land Speeder for the tournament (just some touchups where iyanden darksun has worked its way onto place it shouldn't). A week off work and i'm finaling making progress with my army. Gonna be fun playing both my first tournament and also playing with a fully painted force. I'm a slow painter and need motivation to get stuff finished but I'm really enjoying painting and getting units finished at the moment (no more grey army!).

This was one of my first attempts at weathering using a blister sponge. I tested it out on card but I think I may have overdone it :( . I was attempting to put streaks on the wings which I tried to salvage by highlighting and adding more. So I decided to try and finish it and to be honest the more I look at the weathering the more it seems to grow on me. It looks right for a chapter on a 100 year penitent crusade with little access to resources.

Finally finished basing my devestators, not sure about the base colour, I usaully go for browns but as my Lamenters are mustard I went for and urban grey look to stand out from the models, again I need to correct some mistakes on some of the miniatures but I will do that after I have all my 500 point force ready.

Heres an update on the 2 Razorbacks I am working on. This is the first time i've painted the interior of one of my transports, basically a practice before I attempt to paint the interior of my stormraven so its a bit rough as I have tried different weathering techniques on the inside.

The second one is my Baal Pred which I have magnetised (the doors), so for the tourney I thought it would be easier to paint it up to use as a razorback as it will save time stripping the second hand rhino I have which I intend to do at some point.
Not sure about the scratch built turret, may try something different with my second heavy flamer turret

Devastator Squad WIP

Ok, nearly finished my first Devastator squad, will be painting up a Razorback/Rhino for these guys for the tournament i'm entering. Just need basing and some touchups and should be good to go. Quite like the mustard, thought it was too dark at first but after highlighting I think its growing on me. I'm hoping that forgeworld will release some transfers for the Lamenters as I can't seem to get the chapter transfer as neat as I would like.

Will start on my landspeeder next which was undercoated (using Army Painter Desert Yellow) and magnetised a couple of weeks ago and I have a rhino to soak in dettol and another one to build.

First Post ??????

So i've started this blog to catalogue and display all my gw wargaming endeavers (mainly 40k, some gorkamorka, necromunda, fantasy and aeronautica when i get round to it).

I'm entering my first tournament in August so I thought i'd keep track of my army painting progress, maybe post some tips.

So here are the beginnings of my 40k Lamenter's army (for the 500pt tournament weekend). I've used the army painter dip on this guy but with highlights and to be honest I may just stick to the washes, the army painter stuff is good for my bretonnian peasants (60 archers can be a ball ache to paint and I only really want to spend time on the command group).

So with the rest of the squad I will go back to washes. By the way I have taken a great deal of inspiration from Aventines Zen40k whose Lamenters are simply brilliant.
